THE MAKING OF "RADIO LIED TO ME"

"Radio Lied to Me," Studio Diary, Day Two, Sunday, December 8, 2002. Written by Ken.

Day 2. Now it really feels like we are recording. Back again after a long ass day of recording. Time to finish the drums! Today we have supplies for the long haul. In the grocery bag today we have two loaves of bread (white and wheat), ham, bologna, cheese, lettuce, beer, miracle whip, peanut butter and jelly, gummy bears, pretzels and potato chips. Hopefully this will get us through the night! (It almost didn't!)

... Pugsley gets his cameo on the record in She's Sorry.

Finish the drums we did. Wayne proceeded to kick ass on the 6 remaining songs. Right from the start of day 2 Wayne was rocking. Radio Lied To Me was the first song of session 2. The takes went smoothly from that point on. The second song of the session was Merry-Go-Round. This drum take is fucking awesome. The funniest moment of the night came while Wayne was recording this song. Right in the middle Wayne's headphones came loose and slipped down covering his eyes, making him look like Geordifrom Star Trek. It was classic... had to be there...anyways...Just wait til you all hear the record! The new snare head was sounding great.

... Wayne adds the China cymbal to Say Goodbye.

After Merry-Go-Round we had Teenage Dream, Do You Know That Girl?, Say Goodbye and Little Green Shirt. All of these songs went smoothly with Wayne getting done in one or two takes of each song. Pugsley added a bit of percussion on She's Sorry and Wayne added an extra China hit on Say Goodbye after all the main drum takes were done.

... Microphone connections.

After a quick lunch break (and a few minutes of Fletch) and a visit from Pete, Rita and Noah, we started to listen back to all the drum takes from the start. Noah hung around for that part. We wanted to make sure all the takes were good and all the sounds were grooving. So after listening for about a half hour to the 12 songs, we declared that Wayne kicked ass, and the drums were finished! On to the Bass!

... Tommy and Brian do bass overdubs.

Brian came into the control room and started recording the bass over the parts we thought needed fixing.

... Brian tunes up.

At about 3 am we called it a night and went home. 12 songs finished on drums and 9 finishedd on bass! Ahead of schedule! Tuesday we are back for bass and guitars!
